Friday, Dec. 11, Eugene Hotel, 222 E. Broadway, Eugene, 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.. Sale of jewelry and crafts in the lobby.

Saturday, Dec. 12, 1452 Barber Drive, Eugene, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., or by appointment (call Helen at 345-6144 or 968-2379). Home sale of jewelry and crafts, public invited!

Sunday, Dec. 13, Unitarian Church in Eugene, 477 E. 40th, Eugene  10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jewelry sale.

As always, I would appreciate hearing any ideas you have for our sales or other fundraising ideas.  Our ability to add the Salem Art Festival and the Eugene Celebration to our fundraising events in 2008 contributed greatly to our success.  I'm hoping I can find other new venues for this year.  Please let me know if you have any suggestions.

  •   Sunday, Nov. 22, First Unitarian Church of Portland, 1011 SW 12th Ave, Portland, 1:00 - 3:00, Daisy Bingham Room. World AIDS Day event with speakers, drumming, singing, and the sale of jewelry and crafts.

  • Tuesday, Dec. 8, Winestyles, 2846 Willamette, Eugene, 5:00 - 8:00. Benefit wine tasting -- come kick off the holidays, visit with friends, and celebrate the end of Thembanathi's fifth year! Fifty percent of proceeds will be donated to Thembanathi. In addition, 10% of the sale of wine, gifts, and more will be donated to us if you mention Thembanathi when you are making your purchase.

  • Saturday, June 27, (10 am to 5 pm) –  Day of the African Child: the event includes African food, music and booths representing various non-profits working in Africa – World Forestry Center, 4033 SW Canyon Rd, Portland, OR.  Here is a link to their website – www.worldforestry.org/organization/DAC1.php

  • Friday thru Sunday, July 17, 18, and 19 (Friday & Saturday, 10 am - 7 pm; Sunday, 10 am - 5 pm) – Salem Art Fair & Festival, Bush's Pasture Park, 600 Mission Street Southeast, Salem, OR.  (Salem Art Fair is the largest juried art festival of its kind in the state of Oregon and my favorite art festival.)  Here is a link to their website –  http://tinyurl.com/6auk4c
  • Sunday, March 8, South African Song and Dance Workshop taught by Val Rogers from 2:30 to 5:30 at the Eugene Mennonite Church, 3590 W. 18th.  Val has been exploring South African singing and teaching the music for over a decade.  

  • Friday and Saturday, April 3 and 4, Global Health Conference at the University of Oregon focused on HIV/AIDS in Africa.  The conference, which is free and open to the public, will include internationally known keynote speakers and a full schedule of panel discussions and workshops with experts from social sciences, cultural studies, biology, and medicine, along with practitioners and activists.  On Saturday, April 4, Thembanathi will be there along with other non-profits doing work on HIV in Africa.

•    Sunday, May 4, First Congregational Church, 1050 E. 23rd, Eugene, in the Wheeler Room, 11:00 am to 1:00 pm (We will be doing a presentation about Thembanathi and the Aids Pandemic in the KwaZulu Natal region in South
Africa.)

•   Friday, May 9 World AIDS Orphans Day event, First Unitarian Church of Portland, SW 12th and Main, in Fuller Hall, 6:00 to 9:30 pm.  (Stephen Lewis, the United Nations Special Envoy for HIV/AIDS in Africa from 2001 to 2006, former Deputy Executive Director of UNICEF and Canadian Ambassador to the UN will be speaking at 7:00 pm)

•   Thursday, May 15, Girl's Night Out, Aesthetic Surgical Arts & Skin Enhancement Center, 2550 Willakenzie Road, Eugene, 5:00 to 9:00 pm (Note - this is a benefit for the Relief Nursery.)
